MIO AUSABLE - Jan. 28, 2006 - Whittemore-Prescott adjusted to life without Erica Loomis -- sidelined with mono -- by earning a second-place finish at Saturday's Mio AuSable Invitational. The Cards won four of seven matches, splitting one and losing twice to AuGres-Sims, including the championship match.
W-P split with MIo in the opener 19-25, 25-12, lost to AuGres-Sims 19-25, 17-25, defeated Lincoln-Alcona 25-18, 25-11, topped Fairview 25-20, 25-17, beat Arenac Eastern 25-16, 25-19 and defeated Mio in the semifinals 25-19, 23-25, 15-4 before falling to AGS in the final 5-25, 25-20, 3-15.
"I was pleased with these results," said W-P coach Helen Loomis, who called Katie Eymer up from the JV squad as part of the adjustment to playing without her daughter. "The only disappointing games were in (games 1 and 3) of the finals. Game 2 they played great."
The Cards (16-9-3) were led by Catherine Daniels with 40 points, nine aces, four blocks, 18 digs and 35 kills; Ashley Foco with 31 points, six aces and 10 kills; Eymer with 31 points, eight aces, three blocks and 10 kills; Erin Grezeszak with 29 points, 17 aces, 23 digs and 30 kills; Stephanie Aviles with 63 aces and 17 digs; Kristie Degesie with 23 digs; Miranda Oakley with 17 digs and Madie O'Farrell with 15 kills.
