STANDISH-STERLING - Jan. 21, 2006 - Standish-Sterling's volleyball team continued to show improvement Saturday, going 2-1-1 in finishing third at its home invitational.
The Panthers defeated Oscoda 25-14, 28-26; split with Ogemaw Heights 25-21, 16-25; lost to Gladwin 24-26, 26-28; and swept Grayling 25-12, 25-7.
SSC finished tied for second with Ogemaw but lost the tiebreaker based on points scored. The Panthers also gave tourney champ Gladwin the toughest battle the Flying G's had all day in their two two-point losses.
Leading the Panthers were Candace Campau with 18 points, seven aces, seven kills and 22 digs; Meagan Goick with nine points, two aces, 10 kills and two digs; Lyndsay Potts with 15 points, 10 aces and 16 digs; Rachel Hartwick with 18 points, six aces, 15 kills, 38 blocks and 19 digs; Brittany Riopelle with 22 points, 10 aces, four kills, 31 assists and six digs; Rebecca Beckers with 21 points, four aces, one kill and 28 digs; Abbi Neymeiyer with six points and two aces; and Kayla Pace with six kills.
The Panthers improved to 7-12-7 for the year.
