STANDISH-STERLING - Jan. 21, 2006 - Oscoda's volleyball team didn't have the kind of day coach Linda Hennigar was hoping for at the Standish-Sterling Invitational on Saturday.
The Owls defeated Grayling, but lost to Standish-Sterling, Gladwin and Ogemaw Heights and were unable to escape pool play.
"I thought our play deteriorated this week," Hennigar said. "Our defense was almost nonexistent. We gave up way too many points in this phase of our game.
"For some reason we lack the 'ball will not hit the floor on our side of the net' attitude. If you cannot or will not pass the ball defensively you have no chance at all to mount any kind of an offense."
Leading the Owls were Deanna Boughner with eight kill spikes, Jill Sanderson with three tip kills, 28 points served and 15 assists, Margaret Negro with seven blocks, Arielle Beliveau with three aces, and Riley Shelton and Katie Kapus with 11 digs apiece..
