OSCODA - Dec. 17, 2005 - The Ogemaw Heights volleyball team continued its strong start Saturday by sweeping through the Oscoda Invitational with five victories and one split.
The Falcons defeated Standish-Sterling 25-16, 25-12; Alpena 25-22, 25-16; Whittemore-Prescott 25-16, 25-25; Oscoda 25-21, 25-21; and AuGres-Sims 25-20, 25-11. Ogemaw split with Gladwin 25-22, 19-25.
"The team played great this weekend," said Ogemaw coach Diane Gillette. "This team has a never-say-die or give-up attitude and I like to see that.
"We struggled on the service line a little this weekend but picked it up in other areas such as serve receive and hitting."
Mallory Collins set the tone for the Falcons by serving up 20 aces on 58-of-66 serving. Lauren Shepardson added 26 kills and 40 digs; Alicia Brown had 41 digs; Laura Budge added 25 assists; Holly Wangler had 18 assists on 30-of-33 serving; and Ashley Killinger was 48-of-50 serving with seven aces.
The Falcons improved to 11-1-1 overall and played Monday at Grayling. The Falcon's next match is at home in the North East Michigan Conference opener against Grayling on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
