MIDLAND - Jan. 28, 2006 - Ogemaw Heights' volleyball team reached the semifinals of the Delta Invitational on Saturday before bowing out with a semifinal loss to John Glenn.
The Falcons opened with a loss to eventual tourney champ Grand Blanc 17-25, 19-25, 11-25, but defeated Carrollton 25-16, 25-11, 25-14 and Chesaning 25-16, 25-15 before falling to the Bobcatts 16-25, 25-22, 10-15.
"We were very competitive at times, and then other times our communication was shaky and we let the ball hit the floor," said Ogemaw coach Diane Gillette. "We continued to excel at the service line, serving over 90 percent as a team."
Lauren Shepardson, who was selected to the all-tournament team, led the Falcons with 23 kills, 13 aces and three blocks. Jamie Lucas added 10 kills, 14 aces and five blocks; Mallory Collins had seven kills, 17 aces and three blocks; Sam Thorson had 16 aces; and Holly Wangler had 37 assists.
On Wednesday, Jan. 25 the Falcons topped Tawas Area 25-13, 25-20, 25-16 in NEMC action as Shepardson had 10 kills and Lucas and Renee Wangler added five apiece.
The Falcons (22-7-3, 2-0 NEMC) host John Glenn on Feb. 1.
