OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Jan. 3, 2006 - Ogemaw Heights opened the new year with a three-game sweep of Standish-Sterling in the NEMC opener for both teams, 25-10, 25-14, 25-21 on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

The Falcons, off to a strong 14-2-1 start overall, used perfect serving by Lauren Shepardson and Ashley Killinger, as well as six aces by Mallory Collins, to keep the Panthers off-balance.

"I am pleased with how the team came together and played all three games," said Ogemaw coach Diane Gillette. "Our passing was a little weak at times, which in turn made our setters work harder to try to set the ball up to our hitters. We need to be more consistent in the passing department.

"Standish is a very scrappy team and we needed to be ready for the ball at any time."

Leading the Falcons were Lauren Shepardson with nine kills and 14 digs; Alicia Brown with 15 digs; Holly Wangler with nine assists; Laura Budge with eight assists; Kelly Rosebrugh with six kills and Amber Schmitt with five kills.

Candace Campau, Megan Goick and Rachel Hartwick had four kills apiece, with Harwick adding eight blocks and goick adding two aces.

The Falcons travel to the Gladwin Invitational on Saturday, while SSC (0-8-5, 0-1 NEMC) are at Bullock Creek.
