POSEN - Feb. 23, 2006 - The Hale volleyball team wasn't at its best Thursday, but played well enough to hand Posen a 26-25, 25-15, 25-21 sweep.
While the Eagles were inconsistent on offense, their performance from the service line was another matter. Chelsea Sidebottom was 13-of-14 serving, with 10 aces to give Hale 10 points without having to play a Posen return. Amanda DeShano was 14-15 serving, adding four aces of her own.
The Eagles were also helped by continued contributions from freshmen Elizabeth Lerczak (five kills, five blocks, 10-of-12 serving) and Tarra Caverly (9-of-13 serving, four blocks).
"They have been doing very well," said Hale coach Kristi Benedict. "Liz had another good night at the net, and Tarra had a good solid block at a crucial time."
Other leaders for the Eagles included a typically steady all-around night from Shannon Self (15-17 serving, seven aces, six assists, nine kills and 13 digs); DeShano with 26 digs and Jessica Beasinger with 12 digs.
Hale (13-10, 9-4 North Star League) travels to Hillman on Wednesday for a make-up contest, then goes to Sanford-Meridian for district tournament action on Saturday. The Eagles will play Coleman at about 11:30 a.m., following the Whittemore-Prescott vs. Mio contest.
