HALE - Jan. 16, 2006 - Arenac Eastern gave Hale all it could handle in the first game of their North Star League match on Monday, but the Eagles squeaked out the first-game win and went on to take a 25-22, 25-15, 25-8 sweep.

"Overall good serving continues to elude us," said Hale coach Kristi Benedict, noting the Eagles served 78 percent for the game. "Amanda DeShano and Nicole Allen played pretty well defensively. Amanda isn't afraid to go after the ball and Nicole plays smart and knows where she needs to be on the floor."

Hale did have 22 serving aces, including seven by Sabrina Provoast, five by Chelsea Sidebottom and four from DeShano. Shannon Self had five kills and 11 digs and Andrea Herzog added four kills.

For Arenac Eastern, Nicole Daniels had four digs, six tips, and 14 assists; Julia Altevers had five tips, 10 assists and two saves; Heather Vollmer had 12 assists and Lindsay Nelson had two aces.
