Gladwin puts stop to Owls' win streak

OSCODA - May 30, 2006 - The Oscoda softball team's late-season win streak came to a halt Tuesday as Gladwin hadned the Owls a doubleheader sweep, 16-7 and 14-2.

"The girls didn't play their best game tonight," said Oscoda coach Jamie Samotis. "We had plenty of good plays but more errors in crucial scoring situations showed in the number of runs scored. We also had injuries to key players; I was impressed with how Dana Kitchen, Krystal Frei and Nicole Kammerer stepped in to play."

Riley Shelton took the loss in the opener. Justine Niemann had a triple and a single while Laurie David, Dana Shugart and Shelton each had two hits. Missy Bell led the team with two RBIs.

In the second game, Shugart took the loss but had two hits of her own, including a double.

"Laurie David hustled around the bases and made many awesome catches, too," Samotis said. "Justine and Dana were great at the plate tonight, hitting the ball hard."

The Owls enter district tournament play with a 17-23-1 record.
