OSCODA - April 27, 2006 - AuGres-Sims took to the road Thursday and earned a 10-1 and 10-4 sweep of the Oscoda Owls in a non-conference softball doubleheader.

The Wolverines took control of the opener with a seven-run first inning, thanks in part to the Owls' defensive play.

"Our girls are much better than they played tonight," said Oscoda coach Jamie Samotis. "We had eight errors in the first game and many in the second."

Tasha Dewald paced the Wolverines with three hits, two RBIs and four stolen bases. Jamie Taylor and Jodi Bilacic added two hits apiece, while Alicia Wright drove in three runs with a double. Taylor earned the victory in the pitchers' circle, striking out one and walking none, while Riley Shelton took the loss for Oscoda, walking five and striking out one in six innings.

Heather Bell, Justine Niemann, Heather Walker, Heather Patterson and Dan Shugart each had hits for the Owls.

The Owls stayed within 3-2 midway through the second game before AGS scored three times in the fourth and four in the sixth to put the game out of reach. Elicia Radka had three hits and three RBIs, while Dewald had three RBIs and stole four more bases. Jessica Stevenson won her first varsity game for the Wolverines.

"We played cold tonight," Samotis said. "We came out hoping to take two games against a team we split with earlier but we ended up beating ourselves.

"Everyone on the team had some positive play -- a good play here and a hit there."

Dana Shugart took the loss for the Owls, walking four and striking out two in six innings. Shugart had three hits, including a double, with Spenceley and Walker adding two hits apiece.

The Wolverines improved to 4-12, while Oscoda dropped to 5-11.
