STANDISH-STERLING - April 6, 2006 - Standish-Sterling had its problems scoring goals last year, but that wasn't evident in Thursday's 4-0 season-opening win over Oscoda.

The Panthers scored three goals in the first 15 minutes to build a commanding lead, then held off Oscoda as the Owls shook off their opening-game jitters.

Candace Campau opened the scoring eight minutes into the contest on a penalty kick, and Victoria Hankins scored on a 30-yard shot one minute later. Campau added her second goal seven minutes later on a cross from Leanne Golimbieski.

The Owls picked up the pace, playing the Panthers even the rest of the way but managing only three shots on goal as senior defenders Whitney Rokosz and Rebecca Beckers kept control of the Panthers' backfield.

SSC takes the early North East Michigan Conference lead with the win, as no other league teams have played one another yet. The Panthers travel to Essexville Garber on Monday, while Oscoda hosts Tawas Area on Wednesday, April 12.
