OSCODA - May 1, 2006 - Pinconning's baseball team kept pace with NEMC co-leaders Ogemaw Heights and gained a game on Standish-Sterling on Monday with a 14-0 and 9-2 sweep of Oscoda.
"We didn't hit well at all," said Pinny coach Jeff Sanak. "Especially in the second game. The wind was hurricaning in from right field, and their fences are so deep there it was impossible to drive it up that way."
Casey Ingle tossed a one-hitter in the opening game, striking out 10 in five innings.
Ingle's RBI groundout in the first provided the only run the Spartans needed, but Pinny added six in the second inning to put the game away.
Ingle, Kyle Berner, Nick Kleinhans and Tom Rezler each had two hits. Rezler had three RBIs and Kurtis Mowbray drove in two runs. Oscoda's Tony Nathaniel took the loss.
Rezler was the winning pitcher in the second game, allowing four hits and striking out 11. Dustin Crevier took the loss in relief of Jason Jiminez, who threw one shutout inning before suffering an apparent injury.
Pinny improved to 13-8 (7-1 NEMC) while the Owls fell to 6-13 (1-5).
