OSCODA - April 27, 2006 - AuGres-Sims defeated Oscoda in the opening game of a baseball doubleheader on Thursday, but neither team could defeat the dark of twilight.
The Wolverines defeated the Owls 18-6 in the first game the twinbill, scoring 14 runs in the first inning. The Owls scored pairs of runs in the first, second and fourth innings.
Nick Garvie, Geoffrey Farver, Travis Lee, Dustin Ott and Isaiah Kauffman each had two hits. Garvie and Lee each scored three runs while Clark Larson and Shaun Yotkois each had two RBIs.
Farver earned the victory on the mound.
In the second game, Mark Negro’s double was the only hit for Oscoda, but the Owls pulled avoided the loss by scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth inning before the contest was called due to darkness.
The Wolverines took an early 5-0 lead, but Oscoda scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie it. Six errors and eight walks proved to be the Wolverines' undoing as all six Oscoda runs were unearned.
Farver hit a double and drove in three runs for the Wolverines (6-9-1). Oscoda dropped to 5-10-1.
