AuGRES-SIMS - April 20, 2006 - The AuGres-Sims baseball team scored 20 runs in its doubleheader against Oscoda on Thursday, but the Wolverines needed almost every one of those runs to record a two-game non-conference sweep.
AGS came back from a 12-5 deficit in the third inning of the first game to score a 15-14 victory, then rode a standout pitching performance from Justin DuRussel to a 5-1 win in the second game.
DuRussel was also the winning pitcher in the first game, closing out the contest in a relief role.
Jake Moody's game-ending RBI single capped the Wolverines' rally in the bottom of the sixth. The Wolverines overcame the six-run deficit with a four-run fourth, three-run fifth and two-run sixth.
Oscoda took a 9-4 lead in the second inning with a nine-run rally, then added three in the third to go up 12-5.
Steven Wiede had three hits and three RBIs for the Owls. Jason Jimenez added a home run and three RBIs, with Dustin Crevier driving in four runs with two hits.
The Wolverines' Nick Garvie had three hits, two RBIs and scored four runs.
DuRussel added three hits and drove in three runs and Clark Larson had two hits and two RBIs.
DuRussel allowed one run on Wiede's RBI single in the first inning but shut out the Owls the rest of the way in the nightcap. DuRussel scattered five hits and struck out eight.
Shaun Yotkois led AGS with three hits, with Moody adding a hit and driving in two runs and Geoffrey Farver getting a hit and two RBIs.
The Wolverines improved to 4-8 while Oscoda dropped to 5-7. The Wolverines travel to Oscoda on April 27 for a rematch.
