Falcon swimmers overwhelmed by John Glenn

JOHN GLENN - Aug. 30, 2006 - The Ogemaw Heights girls swim team had the misfortune of taking on defending Independent Swim Conference champion John Glenn in the first dual meet of the season.

"The first dual meet of the season is always tough because you are still getting to know your new swimmers and where they will fit into the lineup best," said Ogemaw coach Sheila Smiley of the Falcon's 136-47 loss. "I thought the team did a nice job against Glenn despite the score. We had many best times of the season and personal best swims.

"We still have a lot of areas that we need to polish and improve on before the conference meet in November."

Top finishers were Jordan Brindley in the 100-meter back stroke, Kate Friederichs in the 100-breast and Autumn Gabourie, Friederichs, Kayla Brindle and Amber Schmitt in the 200-free relay.

Third-place finishers were the 200-medley relay team of Jordan Brindley, Schmitt, Ali Gray and Gabourie; Kayla Brindley in the 50-free; Gray in the diving competition; Tori Rabidue in the 500-free; Kelsi Rutherford in the 100-breast; and Kayla Brindley, Rabidue, Jordan Brindley and Friederichs in the 400-free relay.

Finishing fourth were Christina Johnson, Rutherford, Maureen Eagan and Eden Collins in the 200-medley relay; Friederichs int he 200-free; Eagan in the 200-IM and 100-fly; Kayla Brindley in the 100-free; Kami Shields in the 500-free; Stephanie Gildner, Andrea Montague, Collins and Rabidue in the 200-free relay; and Gray, Shields, Collins and Johnson in the 400-free relay.
