ESSEXVILLE GARBER - Nov. 3, 2006 - Ogemaw Heights and Oscoda both fell victim to a powerful John Glenn girls swim team Saturday as the Bobcats won their fourth straight Independent Swim Conference title by dominating the field at the league finals meet.
Glenn scored 376 points to beat second-place Essexville Garber by more than 100 points. Oscoda finished fifth with 172 points, with Ogemaw Heights taking sixth out of seven teams with 102, defeating Alpena (27).
Oscoda's Erika Nolff set another school diving record with 344.40 points in the 11-dive event, which has more attempts than the typical regular-season meet. Alyssa Peters was a winner in the 100-butterfly with a time of 1:04.52
Other top individual finishers for the Owls included Jessica Migan (8th, 2:20.36) and Brynne Raymond (12th, 2:32.46) in the 200-free; Becca Businski (5th, 2:40.15) in the 200-IM; Peters (7th, 27.49) in the 50-free; Courtney Migan (6th, 225.90) and Kim Kaiser (7th, 198.65) in diving; Brittany Lynch (12th, 1:21.80) in the 100-fly; Megan Stamp (8th, 1:02.70) in the 100-free; Businski (4th, 6:13.37), Jessica Migan (8th, 6:23.35) and Raymond (9th, 6:27.52) in the 500-free; Stamp (3rd, 1:10.99) in the 100-back; and Brittany Kaiser (9th, 1:25.80) and Brittany Buchmann (12th, 1:37.38) in the 100-breast.
Top relay finishers were the 200-medley teams of Stamp, Buchmann, Businski and Peters (4th, 2:08.49) and Katie Killingbeck, Kaiser, Lynch and Amelia Taylor (9th, 2:23.18); the 200-free relay team of Courtney Migan, Buchmann, Elisabeth Billiel and Taylor (9th, 2:01.92); and the 400-free relay team of Peters, Businski, Courtney Migan and Stamp (5th, 4:14.34).
Kate Friederichs was the top Ogemaw Heights finisher, taking fourth place in the 100-breast with a time of 1:20.76.
Other Falcons who placed were Kayla Brindley (9th, 2:22.73); Autumn Gabourie (7th, 2:39.70) and Amber Schmitt (11th, 2:54.48) in the 200-IM; Friederichs (12th, 29.46) in the 50-free; Melanie Tolfree (8th, 184.55) and Laura Tolfree (9th, 173.70) in diving; Kayla Brindley (5th, 6:24.34) in the 500-free; Jordan Brindley (6th, 1:15.65) and Stephanie Gildner (10th, 1:20.74) in the 100-back; and Schmitt (11th, 1:26.44) in the 100-breast.
Top relay finishers were Jordan Brindley, Kelsi Rutherford, Friederichs and Schmitt (8th, 2:17.29) in the 200-medley; Schmitt, Eden Collins, Gabourie and Kayla Brindley (7th, 1:59.75) in the 200-free; and Kayla Brindley, Gabourie, Friederichs and Jordan Brindley (7th, 4:27.44) in the 400-free.
All top-six finishers earned first-team all-ISC honors, while the seventh through 12th-place finishers were second team.
Also for Oscoda, coach Jeff Rush mentioned Killlingbeck's strong swims in the 200-free and 100-back, Christina Delcourt in the 200 and 500-free, Kacey Doherty's efforts in the 100-free and 100-back; Billiel's swim in the 50-free; Jeri Carl's lifetime best times in the 200-free and 100-back; Elena Wojcik's swim in the 50-fre; Jessica Ball's best time in the 100-back; Verena Madry's lifetime bests in the 100-breast and 50-free; and Nicole Jackson's swim in the 500-free.
