OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Aug. 28, 2006 - Oscoda scored twice in the final nine minutes of the second half Monday to earn a 2-0 North East Michigan Conference victory at Ogemaw Heights.
The game was scoreless until the 71st minute, when Ryan Clouse converted a penalty kick that came after Mike Leveille was fouled in the box after beating the Ogemaw defense to an open net. Clouse converted the PK, and Leveille followed with the game's second goal five minutes later off a Mike Mertz assist.
The Falcons had a penalty kick opportunity early in the second half that they were unable to convert.
"It was a struggle out there," said Oscoda coach Lee Mertz of the physical battle. "We have some bumps and bruises to show for it, but the team persevered and came out on top."
Kevin Ostrander recorded the shutout in goal for the Owls (2-0, 1-0 NEMC), who were outshot 14-9 by Ogemaw (1-2, 0-1). The Owls' Leveille, Dan Carlson, Jon Hinojosa and Jon Jack were all credited with non-keeper saves.
