OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Sep. 20, 2006 - Whittemore-Prescott threw a scare into Ogemaw Heights for a half, but the Falcons quickly took the suspense out of the game early in the second half of a 6-0 soccer victory over the Cards.
After playing to a scoreless halftime tie, the Falcons scored three times in the first eight minutes of the second half.
"We played well in the first half but just couldn't get the ball in the net," said Ogemaw coach Jeff Young. "In the second half the ball just started going into the net."
Jackson Moore scored in the second minute of the second half, with Peter Rudnik and Justin Brindley adding goals shortly thereafter. Alex Meiser (24th minute), Greg Simmons (28th, credited for a W-P own goal) and Brad Middleton (30th minute) added late goals for Ogemaw.
"Everybody played hard and gave it their all," said W-P coach Ed Schulte. "We were just beaten by a better squad. The kids entered the game intent to make a game of it, and did.
"They just wore us down in the second half."
Young said that the play of W-P freshman Kenny Liu caught the attention of his team.
"The kids were impressed with him," Young said. "He is a very good player, and if they can build up their supporting cast some more, they're going to be trouble."
Kyle Dantzer had two saves for Ogemaw, while Phil Cotoio had a strong game in goal for W-P.
W-P improved to 3-7 (2-4 NEMC) while W-P dropped to 0-8, 0-6.
