Falcons finish where they started

OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Aug. 23, 2006 - The Ogemaw Heights boys soccer team began the 2006 season the same way it ended 2005 - with a loss at home to Gaylord.

The Blue Devils scored two goals in the first half and put the game away with two more in the first 10 minutes of the second half as the Falcons had trouble generating much of an offensive push.

"The good news was that (defensively) we're getting better at holding (Gaylord) down," said Ogemaw coach Jeff Young. "I wasn't disappointed with how we played overall; just with our lack of offense."

The Falcons managed just three shots on goal. Goalkeepers Kyle Dantzer, who left the game after getting hit in the head, and Sean McClintic combined to make 19 saves.

Gaylord topped the Falcons 6-2 in the opening round of last fall's district tournament.

"We didn't make them come from behind this time," Young said. "But we didn't give up five goals in (the second) half either."

The Falcons travel to Grayling on Friday.
