BAY VALLEY (JOHN GLENN) - Sep. 13, 2006 - The Ogemaw Heights golf team solidified its lead atop the North East Michigan Conference with a five-stroke victory at the NEMC Jamboree held at Bay Valley, hosted by John Glenn.
The Falcons' winning score of 160 topped Tawas Area (165), followed by Glenn (171), Standish-Sterling (172), Pinconning (173) and Oscoda (207).
Josh Phillips and Andy Kish were co-match medalists with scores of 37 to lead the Falcons, with Pete VanOosten and Rob Kish each finishing 10th with scores of 43.
Tawas Area placed Rick Penman (3rd, 38), Blair Conklin (8th, 42) and Matt Flory (10th, 43) in the top 10 and stayed in second place in the season standings behind Ogemaw.
Glenn's Chuck Baumer (5th, 39), SSC's Zack Dziuban (3rd, 38) and San Dantuma (7th, 41), and Pinconning's Adam Schumacher (5th, 39) also finished with top-10 scores.
Ogemaw leads the league with seven team points, with Tawas second at 14. SSC (17), Glenn (18) and Pinconning (20) are in the tightly-packed race for second, with Oscoda sixth at 29.
The league teams have one more jamboree, at Oscoda on Sept. 20, then gather at The Nightmare in West Branch for the league finals, which count as double the regular-season jamborees in the league race.
In the JV jamboree, Ogemaw edged Tawas Area for the top spot, 185-192. Rob Goulette was the match medalist with a socre of 40, with Standish-Sterling's Jared Foco taking second, Ogemaw's Chad Avram finishing third and SSC's Matt Tekson finishing fourth.
In other recent golf action, Ogemaw placed fourth out of 23 teams at the Gaylord Invitational on Sept. 8. Josh Phillips each carded 81s as the Falcons scored 332 as a team. In head to head competition this season, Ogemaw has defeated 44 opponents in head-to-head scoring, while losing to five. The Falcons are 21-2 in head-to-head NEMC scoring.
