OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Sep. 8, 2006 - Thunder and lightning may have delayed the Ogemaw Heights football team, but the Falcons weren't slowed by the Oscoda Owls on Friday.
Ogemaw scored 25 first-quarter points and went on to defeat outmanned Oscoda 44-0.
The Falcons got a pair of 25-yard touchdown passes from Matt Faiman to Kyle Wangler, a 46-yard Faiman fumble return and a 56-yard punt return from Josh Jameson to build their insurmountable lead.
"I thought we played well and did the things we needed to do to win," said Ogemaw coach Andrew Pratley. "We scored on offense defense and special teams (all in the first quarter) so that was great."
The Falcons added a five-yard run from Matt Franklin in the second quarter and runs of 65 yards from Mike Noffsinger and one yard by Bryan Williams in the third period.
Ogemaw also kept Oscoda mired in its season-long scoring drought.
"It was nice to get a shutout," Pratley said. "It meant a lot to our defensive players on every string and a lot to our defensive staff. They did a great job."
Faiman finished with 127 yards on seven carries and was 3-of-7 passing for 63 yards. Carl Worthy led the defense with eight tackles, two assists and a sack, with Scott Kimball adding four tackles and four assists and Mike Pacella one tackle and five assists.
The Falcons (2-1, 1-0 North East Michigan Conference) travel to Pinconning (0-3, 0-1). Pratley said his team can't be deceived by the Spartans' record, as Pinny has had a chance to win each of its three games in the final minutes against quality teams.
"Pinconning has played really hard this year for coach (Chip) Kleinhans," Pratley said. "He's doing a good job. They could very easily be 3-0. He has them ready every wek, and I am sure they will be up this week when we come to town."
