Falcons run at tough Bullock Creek Invite; girls win

BULLOCK CREEK - Sep. 9, 2006 - The Ogemaw Heights cross country teams ran Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Bullock Creek Invitational, with the girls winning the event and the boys finishing ninth.

Holly Mester won the girls race for the second straight year with a time of 19:39.

All of the Falcons' top five finished in the top 12. Noelle Mester followed her sister with a third-place fnish in 20:26. Other top finishers were Chelsea LeForce (10th, 21:08), Lindsay VanOosten (11th, 21:04) and Heather Villarreal (12th, 21:13).

Boys coach Doug Grezeszak was pleased with how his team ran despite finishing ninth of 12.

"The competition was very tough, because we ran quite well," he said.

Mike Lentz finished 28th in 18:13, with Eric VanOosten taking 36th in 18:32, which was the fastest ever for an Ogemaw freshman on that course. Bobby Brent (44th, 18:42), Zach Lynch (49th, 18:52) and Martin Nelkie (68th, 19:33) rounded out the top five.
