Ogemaw Heights 62, at John Glenn 57 (2 OT)

BAY CITY JOHN GLENN - Nov. 7, 2006 - When the Ogemaw Heights girls basketball team has won this season, there has been nothing boring about it. The Falcons kept alive their bid for a .500 season Tuesday with another heart-stopper, a 62-57 double-overtime victory at John Glenn.

The Falcons made 11-of-16 free throws in the two overtime periods, while the Bobcats were just 5-of-15 to provide the difference. Getting to the decisive second OT, in which the Falcons held an 8-3 edge, took some doing.

"We had it," said Ogemaw coach Tim Hansen. "Then we gave it away, then we had it, then gave it away again, then we finally just went and got it."

The Falcons held a 35-27 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but Glenn came back thanks in part to some inopportune Ogemaw fouling, which included three fouls on Bobcats shooting 3-pointers, which on those plays alone gave the Bobcats nine free throws. And Glenn's Lauren Bluhm hit a running 3-pointer at the buzzer in regulation to tie it at 45-45 and force overtime. Thankfully for the Falcons, they had bumped the lead back up to three points after Glenn committed a technical foul for reaching over the end line while the Falcons were trying to inbound the ball.

The Falcons had a chance to win at the end of the first overtime, but things went awry. After taking a time out to draw up a final play, the Falcons missed a shot with nine seconds left, then committed a foul that gave the Bobcats two free throws and a 54-52 lead.

"Not exactly what we drew up," Hansen said.

But Kelly Rosebrugh, who earlier in the season had game-winning buzzer-beaters against Roscommon and Glenn, hit another one on the same play that had been successful on those other occasions to force the second extra period.

"We played much smarter in the second overtime to seal it up," Hansen said.

Jamie Lucas had a huge night at the free throw line, hitting 16-of-24 shots to go with three baskets for 22 points. Ashley Thompson and Alicia Brown each added nine points, while Bluhm had 19 to lead Glenn (4-15, 3-8 NEMC).

The Falcons (10-9, 6-5) host Whittemore-Prescott on Thursday with a chance to ruin the Cards' bid to win the NEMC title outright.
