OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Oct. 10, 2006 - OK, maybe we'd seen all this before. It didn't make it any less exciting for the Ogemaw Heights girls basketball team.

Trailing 39-38 with time running down, Kelly Rosebrugh took the ball down the right side, pulled up and hit a 10-foot baseline jumper with one second left to lift the Falcons to a 40-39 victory over John Glenn.

If there was a sense of deja vu, it was because it was Rosebrugh who hit the same shot in the same situation -- trailing 39-38 -- against Roscommon two weeks ago. (The Falcons won that one 42-39 after Ashley Thompson stole the ensuing inbounds pass and scored.)

It gets weirder. Seconds earlier, the game was tied 38-38 with John Glenn's top scorer, Lauren Bluhm, at the free throw line. Just as Roscommon did, Bluhm hit one of two free throws for the Glenn lead ... and the Ogemaw opportunity.

Rosebrugh canned the game-winner, and as she did against the Bucks, finished with two field goals, a free throw and five points for the game.

Rosebrugh, for her part, didn't seem to want to make a habit of it.

"I just tried to get down there and get the ball up," she said, admitting she was more relieved than excited about her second buzzer-beater in four games. "I think I'd just like to get ahead earlier."

The Falcons couldn't have waited much later; the 40-39 margin was their only lead of the game after Glenn ran off an 11-0 run to start the contest.

"We played a lot better after the first four minutes," said Ogemaw coach Tim Hansen. "We have to address getting focused and having our heads in the game right from the tip. We can't keep putting ourselves in these situations."

Ogemaw scored six points in the final 2:30 of the first quarter to get back in the game, but continued to play catch-up all night. The Falcons tied it twice in the third quarter, but couldn't take the lead.

The Bobcats edged out to a 36-31 lead, but Rosebrugh scored her first points of the night on an offensive rebound to cut it to 36-33. The teams traded free throws for the next several possessions, and Bluhm hit 1-of-2 to make it 38-35 with under two minutes left.

Jordan Foster, who had just come in off the bench, drilled a 3-pointer to tie it at 38 with 1:20 left. Neither team was able to score until Bluhm gave the Bobcats the lead with 7.8 seconds remaining.

"We knocked down some 3's, and Jordan's was a big one," Hansen said.

The Falcons were nothing but balanced in the scoring as Renee Wangler and Jamie Lucas each scored six points. Rosebrugh, Foster and Hanna Morrell each added five and Amanda Jameson added four.

Bluhm had 14 and Kaylene Frank 13 for Glenn (2-9, 1-4 NEMC).

Ogemaw improved to 7-6 (3-2 NEMC), getting five of its seven wins by six or fewer points.
