HOUGHTON LAKE - Oct. 5, 2006 - Ogemaw Heights only led for 12 seconds of their non-conference girls basketball game at Houghton Lake on Thursday. Thanks to some clutch free throw shooting, they were the seconds that counted most.
Hanna Morrell and Kelly Rosebrugh each hit two free throws in the final 12 seconds to lift the Falcons to a 45-42 victory over the Bobcats.
Five fouls in the first 1:50 of the game helped put the Falcons in a 10-2 hole that took the whole game to finally overcome.
"We started out in a funk," said Ogemaw coach Tim Hansen.
Ogemaw trailed 27-22 at the half, and though the Falcons tied the game heading into the fourth quarter, still trailed by four with under a minute to go.
Defense and clutch shooting pulled Ogemaw to within a point, and Morrell capped the rally by getting fouled with 12 seconds left. The sophomore made both ends of the one-and-one, and after the Falcons forced a turnover, Rosebrugh was fouled and did likewise.
Houghton Lake's Molly Collins led all scorers with 15 points, but the Falcons held the Bobcat sharpshooter to one point in the second half.
Jamie Lucas led a balanced Ogemaw scoring attack with 10, with Alicia Brown adding nine. Rosebrugh and Ashley Thompson added six apiece as the Falcons improved to 6-6.
