BOYNE CITY – July 5, 2005 – West Branch’s 11-12 year-old Major League softball all-stars saw their district tournament run come to an end Tuesday, July 5 with a 15-13 loss to Boyne City.

West Branch had a 12-4 lead and was on the verge of a mercy victory before errors contributed to a Boyne City comeback.

“We made a lot of errors, and they cost us,” said coach Jim Lucas. “Just about every one of the girls had hits, but they were all in the first four innings. Then once they got back into the game and took the lead, we weren’t able to get any more hits.”

West Branch had taken first place in its pool the previous week with victories over Manistee and Huron East.
