Cards sweep Nouvel, win 20th

WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - May 12, 2005 - After a recent series of challenging doubleheaders, the Whittemore-Prescott softball team roared back Thursday with a 15-2, 14-4 sweep of Saginaw Nouvel.

"We are putting the ball into play consistently and scoring a lot of runs," said W-P coach Sam Harrison. "I hope we can keep it up."

The Cards erased any doubts in the first inning of the opener, scoring 11 runs before coasting to the win. Theresa Janish pitched a five-inning two-hitter, allowing two unearned runs on two hits, walking none and striking out five. She also added a single, double, triple and three RBI's.

Kaylon Leslie had a triple, two RBI's and scored four runs, while Julie Janis added a double and two singles, with Sarah Leslie, Melissa Perrin and Katie Degesie adding two hits apiece.

In the second game, the Cards scored at least two runs in five of the six innings in which they batted, breaking the game open with four runs in the second and fourth innings.

Kelli Barriger picked up the win, allowing four hits and six walks while striking out eight. Theresa Janish had four hits, including a triple; Sarah Schmidt had two singles, Barriger added a double and Perrin and Julie Janish each added one hit.

The Cards improved to 20-3.
