Tawas beats Falcons, now must root for them

OGEMAW HEIGHTS - May 18, 2005 - The Tawas Area girls soccer team forced another piece of their NEMC title puzzle into place, knocking off front-running Ogemaw Heights 3-1 on Wednesday. Now that the Braves have beaten the Falcons, they must root for an Ogemaw Heights victory over John Glenn on Friday.

John Glenn leads the league with an 8-1 conference record, but plays at Ogemaw (7-2) on Friday. A Falcon victory would create a three-way tie between Ogemaw, Glenn and the Braves (8-2) for the NEMC championship.

Kadra Stec scored twice for Tawas, with Sarah Klenow adding one score for the Braves, who gave up the first goal of the game. Kellie Kasischke had two assists and Amanda Jungquist had one, while Ashley Krumm had 10 saves in goal.

Ogemaw's Alexis Roach gave the Falcons the early lead with a goal in the ninth minute of the first half off an assist from Holly Miller.

"This was a tough, physical game between two teams looking for a share of the conference title," said Tawas assistant coach Kevin Jungquist. "We are very proud of how our girls responded after being down 1-0 and at their home field."

Jessica Spicuzza had 13 saves for Ogemaw Heights.

The Braves improved to 11-5 overall, while Ogemaw dropped to 9-3-1.
