HOUGHTON LAKE - May 12, 2005 - The Tawas Area girls soccer team managed its second near-miracle in two days on Thursday, tallying a game-tying goal with four seconds left in regulation and going on to defeat Houghton Lake 3-2 in overtime.
The Braves, whose Wednesday win over John Glenn came with no time remaining, this time had four seconds to spare as Kadra Stec tied the score. Trailing 2-0, Tawas closed it to 2-1 on Allie Tripi's first goal of the season with 15 minutes remaining.
With 39 seconds left in the first "sudden victory" overtime period, Katie Wajda scored over the top of Houghton Lake's keeper.
The Braves (9-5 overall) await the results of Friday's Ogemaw vs. John Glenn contest to see if their NEMC title chances are still alive. If Ogemaw defeats Glenn, Tawas can force a three-way tie for first place with a victory over Ogemaw on May 18. |
