OSCODA - May 5, 2005 - Standish-Sterling stayed within two games of the top spot of the North East Michigan Conference lead with a 14-1 and 10-4 sweep of Oscoda on Thursday.
Justin Migut allowed only a triple and struck out four while pitching a complete game in the opener. the Panthers had big innings in the third (five runs) and sixth (six runs) to enact the mercy rule after six innings.
Derek Fritz had three hits, including a double, with Seth Trombley adding three hits and four RBI's. Migut and Kris Kandal each had two hits.
Brandon Fowler took the loss for the Owls, striking out six in six innings.
In the second game, Nick Gwisdala allowed two hits and six innings, walking eight and striking out one as the Panthers scored three in the first, two in the second and three more in the third inning.
Fritz had two hits and three RBI's, Trombley added two hits and two RBI's and Keith Karbowski had three hits and drove in two runs. The Panther improved to 10-8, 5-3 NEMC.
Jason Jimenez took the loss for the Owls, allowing seven hits and striking out six in 3-1/3 innings, while Tony Nathaniel came on to strike out seven in 3-2/3 innings of relief.
