AE gets gets two one-run victories

ARENAC EASTERN - May 9, 2005 - Arenac Eastern's baseball team righted its ship Monday, taking a pair of one-run victories over Fairview, 14-13 and 5-4.

The opening game went seven innings as AE struggled in the field.

"We didn't show up ready to play," said AE coach Mike Sanchez. "We had a ton of errors. We didn't get our heads into the game and really play well until the fifth inning."

The teams went back and forth, with Fairview scoring five runs in the top of the sixth to break an 8-8 tie, only to have AE battle back with five of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Thomas Klopf drove in the game-winning run in the seventh.

Brian Langstaff picked up the victory in relief of Matt Cottrell and Gage Morgan. Cottrell had two hits, scored three runs and stole five bases, while Thomas Klopf had three hits, scored twice and had four RBI's.

In the second game, Kyle White and Langstaff combined to hold Fairview to two hits. Thomas Klopf, Jerry Kosecki and Brian Langstaff each had hits and RBI's.

"The second game I think we played pretty well," Sanchez said. "Defensively we played very well until the sixth when we decided to make the game interesting. We still need to cut down on the strikeouts and learn to move the runners."

The Eagles improved to 6-6 (2-4 NSL) while Fairview dropped to 2-6 in league contests.
