Hillman sweeps AE

HILLMAN - May 5, 2005 - Consistency has so far escaped the Arenac Eastern baseball team, and it showed during a 5-2, 10-0 doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Hillman Tigers on Thursday.

"What can I say? We are consistently inconsistent," said AE coach Mike Sanchez. "I think that we could have beaten Hillman. I get tired of saying it, but we have enough talent to win these games. The kids have to start believing they can win them."

In the opener, Hillman scored three runs in the first inning and held on for the win. Gage Morgan pitched well in the loss, allowing two earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three. Morgan, Matt Cottrell and Brian Langstaff each had hits.

In the second game, a four-run third and three-run fifth were more than the Eagles cold overcome as they managed just three hits against Hillman's pitching for the second straight game.

Langstaff took the loss as AE allowed four unearned runs.

"Physically, everything is there for the team to do well," Sanchez said, "regardless of how old they are. Mentally, we just aren't there yet."
