Cardinals fall in Mio tourney semifinals
MIO AuSABLE – Jan. 29 2005 – Whittemore-Prescott put together a string of strong performances at the Mio AuSable Invitational on Saturday, but came up short in the tournament semifinals in losing to Fairview.

The Cards topped Mio 25-20, 25-21; split with AuGres-Sims 25-18, 24-25; beat Lincoln-Alcona 25-22, 25-20; swept Fairview 25-18, 25-18; and swept Arenac Eastern 25-10, 25-16; and lost the rematch to Fairview 15-25, 25-20, 14-15.

“To lose in the semifinals after defeating Fairview earlier was very disappointing,” Whittemore-Prescott coach Helen Loomis said. “Fairview played very well defensively, while our offense just was not up to speed.

“We definitely have the skills to have won the tournament but chose the wrong time to play weak. The girls played much better prior to the semifinals.”

Leading the Cards (19-6-4) were Kelli Barriger with 15 aces; Erica Loomis with 54 kills and 25 blocks; Emily Hebert with 76 digs; and Theresa Janish with 85 assists.
