Cards overcome deficits to earn sweep
HOUGHTON LAKE – Jan. 24 2005 – The Whittemore-Prescott volleyball team swept Houghton Lake on Monday night, but it was no easy task. The Cardinals had to work a little overtime in the final two games, winning 25-15, 26-24, 29-27.

“In game one, we served 100 percent and our overall play was consistent,” W-P coach Helen Loomis said. “In games two and three we had a total of seven serving errors and some laspes in defense.

“Despite the lapses, the girls never gave up.”

W-P overcame a 13-20 deficit in the second game and a 16-21 disadvantage in the third game. Annalise Gordon's three consecutive aces wrapped up the second game.

Leading the Cards were Emily Hebert with 16 digs, Theresa Janish with 30 assists, Ericka Loomis with 17 kills and 3 blocks; and Gordon with 3 aces.

W-P (15-5-3) travels to the Mio tournament on Saturday, Jan. 29.
