GAYLORD – Jan. 15 2005 – The Whittemore-Prescott volleyball team sought to challenge itself against larger schools at the Gaylord Invitational on Saturday. And challenged the Cards were, facing squads with much bigger athletes that exposed areas the W-P team need to work on to improve their game.
The Cardinals went 0-3-1 for the day, splitting with Rudyard 20-25, 25-21; losing to Gaylord 16-25, 19-25; falling to Escanaba 21-25, 21-25; and losing to Pellston 10-25, 18-25. “We had too many inconsistencies against teams that were much taller than us and moved well,” said W-P coach Helen Loomis. “We had periods where we played very well, and then (would) turn around and go flat. Overall, our serving improved but we had too many hitting errors.” The Cards (13-5-3) were led by Erica Loomis with 18 kills, 7 blocks and 6 aces; Theresa Janish with 37 assists; Kristie Degesie with 21 points; and Annalise Gordon with 31 digs. |
