Hale takes home match from Fairview

FAIRVIEW - Feb. 16 2005 - The Hale volleyball team earned a 25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 25-14 victory over Fairview in a contest delayed two days due to ice that canceled school on Monday.

The Eagles earned the win despite struggling with the flu.

"All of them have missed practices, so I wasn't sure what would happen," Hale coach Kristi Benedict said. "I know it's hard to keep the intensity levels up when you're not feeling well but the girls did a decent job of keeping their focus to win the match."

Benedict said that Karys McKulsky and Kara Hunt turned in strong performances at the net, while Shannon Self, Stephanie Windsor and Brandi Jaremba all served higher than 90 percent.

"The girls are still struggling with consistent, hard hitting," Benedict said. "The last couple of matches they have played better than they had been. The season gets long and at this time of year it's hard for them to stay focused and continue to play well.

"With districts a little over a week away, it's crucial to keep them motivated and focused on the goals they have set. With so much going on in their lives it's not always so easy."

Leading Hale (8-10, 7-5 North Star League) were Self with 7 aces, Windsor with 92 percent serve efficiency, Jaremba with 20 assists, McKulsky with 16 kills and Hunt with 12 digs
