Hale keeps pace with Mio in NSL
HILLMAN – The Hale volleyball team earned a critical road victory Monday night, defeating Hillman 25-20, 15-25, 25-21, 25-20. The win kept the Eagles within one game of league-leading Mio AuSable atop the North Star League standings.

“It was another good match, though not as good as last Thursday (against Fairview),” Hale coach Kristi Benedict said. “Hitting was not where I would have liked to seen it, but we did get some good hits in.

“After losing the second game, they got their momentum back and didn't give up. They stayed fired up for the entire match. It was good to get this win.”

Leading the Eagles were Shannon Self and Andrea Herzog with 3 aces apiece; Brandi Jaremba with 26 assists; Herzog with 14 kills; Self with 6 digs; and Laura Barclay with 2 blocks.

“Laura had a good game,” Benedict said. “(She) came through with some key blocks and her hitting has been improving. She's been keeping the ball in and not hitting the long balls like she was. Karys (McKulsky) and Andrea both had some good tips and did very well in reading the other side of the net and hitting the holes. Stephanie (Windsor) and Jessica (Beasinger) continue to play very well defensively. Neither one has a problem with hitting the floor and came up with some key saves ...

“Overall the girls are improving on their passing. They seem to be more relaxed and under control.

The Eagles improved to 5-6 overall, 4-1 in North Star League play. The Eagles host Posen on Jan. 27.
