HALE – Jan. 20 2005 – The Hale volleyball team served with 92 percent efficiency Thursday at home against Fairview, leading the Eagles to a 25-13, 25-15, 25-9 sweep.
With serving doubly important in the new era of rally scoring – when a bad serve gives a point to the other team – Hale coach Kristi Benedict was pleased with her team's proficiency in getting the ball over the net. “All of the girls that served did very well,” she said. “Of those that served, they got them all in, or missed only one.” Benedict said it was one of those nights where everything seemed to come together for the team. “The girls were playing like crazy tonight,” she said. “It was so fun to see them play like that. Shannon (Self), Andrea (Herzog), Karys (McKulsky) and Laura (Barclay) all did very well hitting. The girsl were passing well and Brandi (Jaremba) had an excellent game with her setting ... Everyone was moving and communicating. We had some excellent volleys – both teams were able to keep some balls alive that you thought would hit the floor. “It was one of those matches where you say, 'I knew they could play like that!'” The Eagles (4-6, 3-1 North Star League) finished with 20 aces, led by Self's 8. Jaremba had 23 assists, McKulsky had 12 of Hale's 37 kills, and Erin Grove and Self each had 4 digs to lead the team. |
