Shorthanded Wolverines spiked by Fairview

AuGRES-SIMS - Feb. 10 2005 - The AuGres-Sims volleyball team, playing without its flu-ridden team captain and one of its top defensive players, absorbed an 11-25, 17-25, 27-25, 25-8, 11-15 defeat to Fairview on Thursday.

Despite the adjustments that had to be  made to playing without starters Jodi Bilacic and Tasha  Dewald, AGS coach Jeri Christie felt that the Wolverines still had ample opportunity to win.

"Fairview played a pretty good game, but they didn't beat us," she said. "We beat ourselves. (We) missed serves when we needed them most. Because of a lack of communication, the  ball dropped  between two or three players consistently. Without Jodi on the floor the girls looked  like they were lost, and it took awhile to adjust.

"We came back to win the third and fourth games and looked more  like the team I know, but they just didn't hang on  for the fifth game."

Despite  the loss, Christie said that a number of the Wolverines came up big while playing unfamiliar positions.

"Sam Baron adjusted to a  different position and got  into a groove there,"  she said.  "Charisse Morris (normally a defensive specialist) adapted to being a front row player, Angela Porn continues to be a force to reckon with at the net. Jamie Taylor is  getting better every game at running the offense.

"It was a tough loss, but we'll bounce back."

Leading the Wolverines (10-11-4, 6-6 NSL) were Taylor with 29 assists; Porn with 17 kills, 4 aces and 3 blocks; and Baron with 15 digs.
