Posen edges Wolverine spikers

POSEN – Jan. 20 2005 – The AuGres-Sims volleyball team lost a white-knuckler at Posen on Thursday, but AGS coach Jeri Christie was highly encouraged by what she saw from her team.

The Wolverines fell to the Vikings 24-21, 23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 13-15, but what stuck out to Christie was the way the game was played.

“These were the best five games of volleyball I have ever been a part of,” she said. “We lost the match, but there is a lot to be proud of... Back and forth, up and down, both teams played extremely well. Bump, set, spike, dig, set, spike and on and on. It was fun!

“This is the best team I have coached. They don't get down on themselves or others when things don't go our way. They did in deeper and don't give up.

“The girls are learning their roles, and they realize that every role is important, whether they start or now, whether they play a lot or not, each girl is important to this team. We need the girls to cheer and help keep spirits high, we need the subs so our starters can rest or get a drink, we need people to come off the bench and be a spark plug on the floor, we need the girl off the bench to come in and get her serves in, have her head in the game and know what's going on. This is the kind of team I have and I am so very proud of
them.”

Statistical leaders included Jamie Taylor with 5 aces and 30 assists; Jessica Schwiderson and Angela Porn with 100 percent serving; Katie Cypher with 14 kills and 2 blocks; and Charisse Morris with 8 digs.

The Wolverines (2-6-3, 2-2 NSL) were set to host Mio AuSable on Monday, Jan. 24.
