FAIRVIEW – The AuGres-Sims volleyball team won its first game at Fairview, lost control of the contest and bounced back to take a North Star League victory on the Eagles' home court. The Wolverines won the match 25-20, 6-25, 28-26, 25-16.
“The girls, won, but they had to fight for this one,” AGS coach Jeri Christie said. “I really don't know what happened to us the second game (the 6-25 loss) , but Fairview had some excellent serving a few nice hits. Next thing we knew we were in a big hole. “That's the way it is with the new rally scoring. I like it, but it sure puts gray hairs on my head.” The the match tied at 1-1, the Wolverines fell behind 18-9 in the critical third game before coming back to win 28-26, then won the fourth game in less harrowing fashion. Angela Porn served nine straight serves, including three aces, to get the Wolverines back in the game, with Tasha Dewald supplying a couple of critical saves. “I am so proud of them for their determination and for not giving up,” Christie said. “This is a great bunch of girls. Katie Cypher was on fire at the net for awhile – hitting everything and getting her hands on Fairview's hits.” “Angela Porn was instrumental in helping us win the third game,” Christie said. “And Tasha had a couple of saves that I still can't believe she pulled off.” Jodi Bilacic had 10 kills and 6 digs; Jamie Taylor added 20 assists; and Porn had 8 aces on 21-of-22 serving to lead the Wolverines. The victory improves AuGres-Sims to 2-1 in North Star League contests, 3-5-2 overall. |
